Top things to do for Valentine’s Day in Santa Monica

Whether you love to love it or love to hate it, Valentines Day is coming again, and it’s only one week from today. So I thought I’d share a few unique ideas for things to do in Santa Monica this year in case you are a little behind on the planning or just looking for something fun to do.

For Couples:

1. Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel–Head out to Santa Monica Pier with your guy or gal to enjoy the sunset and some fun rides. If you like some free goodies, then head there early because the first 500 couples at Pacific Park (the park/grassy area before you walk down to the pier) receive a free LED rose and chocolate kisses with their ferris wheel ride from 5:30 – 9:30pm. To receive the LED rose and kisses, couples simply need to purchase a ticket and go to the Pacific Wheel Ferris wheel entrance and notify the attraction’s operator and Pacific Park will provide the complimentary “Valentine’s Day package.”  The view from the top of the ferris wheel is a great romantic setting as you’ll be 130 feet above the ocean and able to enjoy views of Catalina Island, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Malibu and the Santa Monica Bay.

2. Romantic Wine+Cheese Painting night– If you’re looking for a creative & artsy way to spend V-Day you might want to check out Santa Monica Main Street’s Paint Lab. For $60 plus the cost of the canvas size you choose, you can paint to your heart’s desire from 6-9pm while enjoying strawberries, champagne, chocolate, wine, and cheese. Reservations are required, so call (310) 450-9200.  I would try painting each other’s portraits after a few glasses of wine for some comic relief if you don’t have ideas for what to paint. The couples that paint together stay together..?

3. Harvelle’s Harlow Gold Burlesque show– If you’re looking for something fun and a bit risqué to do this Valentine’s Day, you might want to consider purchasing tickets to Santa Monica Harvelle’s Harlow Gold burlesque show. It’s a different but incredibly fun date idea. The show begins at 10 and for just $25 a ticket you’ll enjoy a night of great dancing and music. Don’t worry, it’s not a strip show, it’s a high energy cabaret entertainment show. “The show is hands-on and in your face (literally), blending modern, recognizable music (think White Stripes and Tom Waits) with throw-back, cabaret-inspired moves in a way that is as sensual as it is mesmerizing.” according to a Huffington Post article. Be sure to buy tickets asap though because they sell out before the date of the show. You can buy tickets from Harvelle’s website here.

For the single ladies and gentlemen:

Brick + Mortar on Main Street–This restaurant and nighttime bar is gaining popularity as one of Santa Monica’s hottest restaurants thanks to its casual but trendy atmosphere, amazing food, and attractive 20-something crowd. If you’re looking to meet other singles this Valentines Day, definitely make a stop here, but be sure to wear the appropriate color because you’ll be stepping into a   “Stoplight Party.”  In other words, guests should come wearing the color of their relationship status (red = taken, yellow = potentially interested, and green = single and ready to mingle). There will be a DJ, special menu items added, and an extra V-Day surprise for diners. The party begins at 9pm.
